about

My dad's brother Jack worked for a time in the mines at Seaham. My father was a petty officer in the Royal Navy. Out of that came this song but It's not actually about either of them as I set it back in the 1800s, they were my muse, my inspiration. The last of my sea songs, 'The Spirit Of Jack' from my second solo album Too Poor For Trailer Trash is about two brothers both who work in a mine in the north east of England out under the sea. One leaves for a life at sea while the other, Jack, stays working down the mine. In typical folk song style both meet a tragic end but join each other in death, reunited together for eternity.
